Rules and regulations

Creative Sumo Robot

Rules in brief

  • The competition runs in rounds as set out in the schedule, on a knock-out or double-elimination basis (two losses and you are out) until a champion emerges, depending on how many teams enter
  • On the judge's signal, competitors come to the ring together and place the robot on the floor with some part of it touching the edge on each side. It may face any direction; once placed, the robot must not be picked up to change position
  • On the judge's signal, competitors press or flip the switch to start the robot
  • The match stops and restarts only when the judge announces it
  • Each tie is 2 or 3 games of 1 minute each, starting and ending on the head judge's call
  • Whoever wins 2 of the 3 games first wins that tie
  • If extra time is played it is set at 1 minute, or as the judges determine
  • If the game is tied, both robots are weighed and the lighter robot wins

What to bring

  • A robot built from the ArTec BlockRobo Link Basic, Advanced or Education SET by INEX creative mechanism kits
  • No more than 25 cm wide and 25 cm long, unlimited height, and no heavier than 1 kilogram
  • The robot must operate autonomously
  • Movement by elastic power is prohibited in all cases
  • Power comes from no more than 3 AA batteries; rechargeable batteries of any kind are prohibited
